I have the same issue with BB&t on their overdrafts. I put $3600 in thru the atm at 2 in the afternoon.

Therir machine states any items after 3 go to the next days business. I get an overdraft of $140 for 4 bounced checks that cleared at midnight of the same day which all totaled were less than $2000. I was told by their customer service that as of the 1st of the year they changed their accounting procedure to put thru debits before credits!!

A call to the branch mgr produced the same results basically too bad.

Well guess what they have now lost 3 checking accts and 2 savings accounts over this and when you read about all these bank failures and you see the way they treat customers it couldn't happen to a better group of people!!

I work for BB&T and have for about 5 years now. Over those 5 years there have been changes on how items post to accounts, it is true. Let me explain the process. In the past when you made your deposit before 2:00 (the deposit cut off time) your deposit would post before current day debits but after past debits.

Example:

you have a starting balance of $100 on the 15th withdrawl 2 items for $25 each on the 15th make a deposit on the 16th for $300 (not on BB&T check/ transit check) before 2:00

2 checks you wrote off your account come in on the 16 $100 each

in the past your transactions would have posted as so:

A) $100 - ** - ** = 50 + 300= 350- 10* - ***= 150

now your transactions post like this:

B) $100 - ** - ** + $100 (courtesy credit)-100 - 100 = -50 and then the rest of your deposit is credited as NEXT business day and added in after all the other items post.

if you had deposited a check written off of BB&T or cash the transaction would look like

it had in the past (A)

The bank did this in order to protect itself (as well as ... im sure... in order to make money on the fees) Banks can not hold checks as long as they used to (because of fed reorganization) this opens it up to more risk. It can also take up to 11 days for a bad check to return to the bank. Banks do not receive the money from the check you deposited as you deposit it... it takes time to collect the funds.

As for holds on direct deposits, that does not happen. BB&T credits direct deposits to accounts as they are instructed to by the employer/ company/ entity initiating the ACH.

I hope this has helped :)

I have finally asked my daughter to close her account with BBT bank after the garbage they pulled on her twice now , she is a student and I wanted her to have a banking rlationship with my " good ol bank " that I considered has good customer relations but they have prooven otherwise and their branch manager actually called her a liar after she had gotten a statement from them and contacted them by phone after going through it ; she had discovered that the bank posted her deposit first but yet had charged her for items that had been debited after the deposit . I had never really taken a look at my statements because of my trust for the bank ; after all these are the same people I grew up with ,we go to church with ,our neighbours and the same people we go to our childrens soccer games with .

What ??? Im also closing my accounts with them .

I have lost all my trust in them , after all , I might as well be putting my money down the drain . BBT , you just lost 8 accounts !!!!!
